Heaven or Hell by Jay Skellett

Our work explores the shifting codes of modern life, rendering them in abstract form. These portraits carry a quiet enigma, figures not observed, but remembered; impressions that linger behind the eyes, like echoes of faces we have never quite seen, yet somehow know. Some call them djinn, others Angelise; to a few, they are glimpses of the afterlife, souls suspended in the act of becoming visible.

Jay and I (Paul) are bound not only as brothers but also by a shared experience of pain. We both live with Fibromyalgia, and from this, our work draws a deeper current. Though each piece is created individually, they are connected by a common thread of expression, one shaped by endurance, perception, and the need to translate what cannot be easily spoken.

There is a refined urbanity to our work, an attitude that sits effortlessly within contemporary spaces: modern apartments, offices, hotels, and intimate bars or clubs. The style moves between worlds, bridging the language of fine art with the raw immediacy of the street. Each piece carries both narrative and energy, extending beyond the canvas to meet the viewer's gaze.

These works are created in acrylic on canvas, chosen for its intensity, its ability to hold and project vivid colour with clarity and force.
